In video 3:50 a statistics table of annual salary of nurses from the NHS website is introduced to point out the current situation of nursing work, which is not optimistic and underpaid. At the same time we introduced relevant videos about NHS nurse strike campaigns over pay, which demonstrate that this is a common phenomenon faced by those working in the NHS system. However, the lack of background on the pay freeze and recent strike action is due to our primary reliance on official salary tables, which fails to incorporate the wider socio-economic context. While we mentioned strikes and the value of labour, we did not explore in depth the continuing problem of NHS pay freezes and their practical impact on nursing staff.
To address this, we intensify our discussion of the economic dimension, in particular pay inequality and the policy context. We cite a number of secondary sources to prove our point, such as recent NHS reports on the nursing sector or official data.
